Official Solution. That is very misleading that it'll turn off the receiver during setup, but cannot support that function in normal use. My old uverse remote SS1A is more capable than this "genie" remote, since it can control the power for all 3 devices. Many of use "smarter" programmable remotes. To clarify, none of the RC7x series remotes can control power for audio devices. Then why when the code for the receiver is selected, does the on screen msg request to push the "power" button to test turning off the receiver?

I have the remote programmed to my TV and in RF mode. Every time I try to program the audio receiver through the Settings on DirecTV I get the message: "there was an issue with programming your Denon audio with your remote.

See if that helps. If that does not help, try the 'Idont know my model number" option. So I had to switch back to RF. After scrolling manually through listings of Denon equipment, I found AVRX which produced an error, and then actually seemed to work. I have invested a ton of money and time into a Harmony system.

So I go to change back to IR Why are you programing the RC73 if you are using a Harmony? Shanon, I paid for the RC I would like to use it with the massively complicated system that I just purchased. Please login or register. I've got a new home theater setup and I'm having a very annoying problem with the denon avr receiver. I set hdmi control to "on" on the denon. I turn on the tv with the remote and it comes on with no sound for about 5 sec.

It then turns off and a denon screen comes up, then goes blank. In order to get the tv picture back with sound I have to use the denon remote, which is requiring 2 remotes to start.

This is bad enough but I am concerned that turning the tv on and off like this will cause premature switch problems in the future. I called denon and they said with hdmi turned on I "might just have to live with it". Said this is a downside to hdmi control feature. This is upsetting bec this is not a cheap receiver and is supposed to be one of the better ones out there. I'm going to call best buy where I got it and may return it if I can't get a straight answer.

Is it possible to change the order in which things start. One possible solution to the 2 remotes is a programmable remote in which you essentially develop a sequence of events initiated with a push of one button. BestBuy has a Home theater install service that might be worth exploring before you give up on the denon. It sounds like you have a settings conflict, there usually is more than one way to wire these setups, although I am certainly not an expert.

Thanks for the input. After expounding above I looked at it anew and realized that the directv is not turning on the denon which it should. You can program the directv remote to control receivers, incl denon, by inputting codes. I found the codes work to turn off the denon, along with the rest of the devices, incl tv.

But when I pwr on with the directv remote everything comes on except the denon. But everything turns off from the dir remote, incl denon, so it is making contact there. Therefore, this may not be a denon problem or maybe it is. I haven't been able to get through to anyone yet. Sounds like the place to start is DirectV.

I have cable but I've had a couple of boxes go bad or simply not work, new out of the box. Maybe it's as simple as a bad remote. I spoke with someone at denon who sounded knowledgeable and was in the u.

As ja said, he had me turn the hdmi control to 'off'. I was reluctant bec I bought the receiver bec it had what they call pass thru hdmi, meaning you get both video and audio on one high speed hdmi. The tv and receiver have this feature. Turning it off, however, doesn't mean you lose the pass thru. It only removes some of the capability to control everything with one remote. So I turned it off and now when I turn on the tv with the directv remote I get the picture and sound and it stays, it no longer turns off the tv.

I also talked with lg and they were helpful. I don't understand all this but it appears there is some bug they haven't work out with this new technology. I don't know yet if other problems will arise but as for now I'm getting full 5.
